Planned Outage For May 3

Due to a pay-per-view fight we've been notified about, the outage planned for May 3 will now begin at 2 a.m. The outage is still expected to last 15 minutes in Western Harnett, Anderson Creek, Spring Lake, and Linden areas. Members in the Maxwell Road area can expect a blink between 2 and 4 a.m. We thank you for sharing this information.

Martin Honored At Cooperative Meeting

The wife of Carlton Martin was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for her late husband at the South River EMC Annual Meeting on April 23 in Fayetteville. Martin served as a director on the board of South River EMC for 30 years.

South River EMC Appoints New Director

Jeffrey Martin, 56, has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Carlton Martin on the South River EMC Board of Directors.

Although Jeffrey Martin is the son of deceased board member, Carlton Martin, this appointment was not automatic. In order to ensure the Cooperative members are served by the best representative, the board welcomed applications from members living in District 4 and conducted interviews.

It’s No April Fools! Bright Ideas Kicked Off April 1

As the end of the school year is quickly approaching, everyone is considering their summer plans. From vacations to preparation for the 2015-2016 school year, many educators are thinking one thing, will I have what I need in my classroom?

Each year teachers have new and innovative ideas to help keep their students engaged in these lean times. Thanks to the Bright Ideas Grant Program teachers across North Carolina are now using an assortment of classroom aids, kits and technology.

Offices Closed Friday, April 3

South River EMC offices will be closed Friday, April 3 in observance of Good Friday. We wish everyone a happy and safe Easter. Offices will reopen Monday, April 6.

Cooperative Foundation Awards Over $64,000 In Grants

During the March funding cycle, South River Electric Membership Corporation’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, or CAC, awarded $64,900.50 in grants to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions.

The Annual Oyster Roast And Shrimparoo Is Approaching

The annual Oyster Roast & Shrimparoo is here to help raise funds for two very important programs in our community and the deadline to purchase tickets is approaching swiftly.

The United Way of Harnett County and the Power Source Volunteers are joining forces to hold their annual Oyster Roast & Shrimparoo on Thursday, March 12 at the Erwin Business Complex, located at 200 North 13th Street, Erwin.

PSV Scholarship Opportunity Closes January 23

For the 2015-2016 school year, South River EMC’s Power Source Volunteers Committee is offering at least one $1,000 and two $500 college scholarships. To be considered those applying must live in a home, which receives electric service from South River EMC.

Factors considered in granting scholarships included: character, moral standards, citizenship, past and present academic performance, letters of recommendation, statements of career goals and qualifications and extra-curricular activities.

Grants Awarded Thanks To Members’ Support

In December, South River Electric Membership Corporation’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, or CAC, awarded over $29,000 in grants.

Awarded quarterly, these grants are available to nonprofit organizations as well as educational institutions. Organizations to receive $5,000 grants were: Clement Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.; Beacon Rescue Mission; Boy Scouts of America, Occoneechee Council; Summerville Bunnlevel Fire & Rescue. Also receiving grants this cycle were: Salemburg Volunteer Fire Department, $4,500 and Coats Museum, $4,310.77.
