Insulation & Weatherization

Insulation & weatherization rebate will discontinue on March 1. Please ensure applications are submitted by February 28.

Ways To Save Big

Having the right amount of insulation and sealing air leaks is important. After all, approximately 50 percent of your electric bill is attributed to heating and cooling your home. With leaks and insufficient insulation, you can expect those costs to be even higher. Do something about it! By completing this work you could be eligible for a rebate from South River EMC, as well as making your home more efficient.

Measures include:

Air Sealing: Hidden air leaks cause some of the largest heating and cooling losses in older homes. Common air leakage sites include plumbing penetrations through insulated floors and ceilings, baseboard moldings, dropped ceilings above bathtubs and cabinets, attic access hatches, and doors.

Duct Sealing: In houses with forced-air heating and cooling systems, ducts are used to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. In a typical house, about 20 percent of the air that moves through duct system is lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts.

Improved Insulation (Attic and Floor): Insulation reduces the amount of heat flow between conditioned and unconditioned spaces.
