Recently, South River EMC’s Community Assistance Corporation, or CAC awarded $42,474 in Operation Round Up grants, to local non-profits and schools.
The following non-profit organizations received funding: Gray’s Creek Ruritan Club and the Plain View Community Center, $5,000 each; and Spivey’s Corner Volunteer Fire and Rescue, $4,800. Five and Two Food Pantry received a grant pledge of $10,000. Grant pledges are good for a 12-month period, and are awarded once the remainder of the funding for the project has been procured.
The schools that received funding are Hargrove Elementary, $7,674; and Hobbton High School, which received a grant for $10,000.
“Through Operation Round Up, South River EMC members are able to combine their individual contributions to have a more significant impact on the community,” said Catherine O’Dell, VP of Member Services and PR, South River EMC. “The $2.7 million of member contributions demonstrates that together we can have tremendous impact.”
Operation Round Up is a voluntary program that enables members of South River EMC to round up their electric bill to the next whole dollar. For example, if a bill is $158.63, the bill rounds up to $159 and the extra 37¢ is deposited into the Community Assistance Corporation fund.
The amount you donate through Operation Round Up every month amounts to no more than $6 a year. And that small donation adds to more to help hundreds of children, families and individuals each year.
South River EMC accepts and reviews applications on a quarterly basis. The next deadline for applications is May 20, by 5 p.m. Applications, as well as guidelines, can be found online at sremc.com. Please note, handwritten applications are not accepted, and an online application is required
